For lovers of sea life, the impressive CretAquarium in Gournes is a must visit, offering “the unique opportunity for visitors to make a “dive” in the beautiful sea of the Mediterranean world”. The aquarium, which features a huge variety of marine life, from sharks to tiny sea horses and a pageantry of jellyfish, is a one and a half hour drive from Lagada Resort.

Completely updated in 2009, the CretAquarium features 60 tanks of various sizes, housing over 2,500 organisms, presented against underwater landscapes of the Cretan Sea. Modern audiovisual systems and innovative interactive applications, such as “info-points with touch screens and screenings of video projectors, enhance the visitors’ experience.

There are individual and group audio guide systems available in seven languages giving each visitor the opportunity to learn about all of the exhibits just by typing in the number of the tank they are viewing on a handset.
