Vai Palm Forest
Visit the beautiful palm forest beach of Vai, a Cretan Paradise and one of the most treasured sites in the Mediterranean. Vai is located just 24 km east of Sitia which is a pleasant hour long drive from Lagada Resort, making it an ideal location for a day trip.
The palm forest of Vai covers an area of approximately 250,000 square metres, making it the largest forest of its type in Europe. It is a specially protected area as many migrating birds stop and rest here on their passage to and from Africa. The sand and pebble beach is shaded by the palm fronds of the forest and there are sun loungers, straw umbrellas and wooden walkways for easy access. If you’re feeling energetic you can climb the steps at the side of the beach to a viewing platform which offers a breathtakingly panoramic vista of the forest and the whole area. Explore the palm forest and if you’re visiting in early summer or September you might even discover a small rainwater lake amongst the trees.
For refreshment there is a reasonably priced restaurant and cafeteria at Vai and also toilet and shower facilities for visitors. Watersports lovers can enjoy banana boat, jet-skiing and wakeboarding in the sea, making Vai a great day out for everyone.
