The  stunning Thripti mountain range is the fifth largest mountain range of Crete and the is highest peak, Stavromenos, summits at 1476 metres.  The mountains are covered by pine forests and are a popular area for walkers because of their great natural beauty and wide variety of wildlife.  There are many walks in the Thripti area and you can walk to the summit of Thriptis at 1458 metres from the E4 footpath at the village of Thripti.   It’s possible to drive to the village where you can leave your car but be aware that the road is rough after Ano Horio.
